Sheffield Club Scene
Nightlife in Sheffield has always been seen as something of a student/indie scene, with less in the way of late bars and clubs to cater for the chic discerning gentleman and more in line for the casually dressed student or heavy metal rock fanatic, but this trend looks set to be changing. Rock venues such as Corporation and the Leadmill are being matched against by slick and suave new nightlife spots such as the recently opened DQ. DQ is new late bar near the West One Appartment complex in Sheffield with a state-of-the-art crystal clear sound system, visuals and intelligent lighting system illuminating a roomy dancefloor surrounded by a sleek, sexy bar environment. Head outside and upstairs and you will find a late lounge bar that is decorated in sumptuous leather, across not only the chairs but also the tables. This lounge bar is extremely suave; of a Friday night with mellow chillout and upbeat hip-hop tracks coming from the DJ booth and an array of multicolour lights casting the room in soft hues of blue, green, red and purple it creates a very laid back and welcoming environment to sit and relax with friends on the spacious leather sofas.
This sophistication does not come at a price either, as not only are the drinks downstairs reasonably priced, with premium brands of spirits given in double measures but even the extensive plethora of cocktails available won't put a sting into your wallet. Entry prices even on special guest nights are under a tenner, a price at which you simply can't go wrong. A far cry from venues such as Kingdom, where cheap and cheesey are the order of the night - with a strong emphasis on cheese - venues such as DQ offer a truly enjoyable evening to the music enthusiast that isn't out to simply drink heavily and find a mate. With a little more suave in the atmosphere, this is the kind of venue that still permits you to go out to get wasted, but do it with style and in a more relaxing, comfortable environment.
With recent star guests such as the ever smooth Fun Lovin' Criminals paying a visit to get on the decks, you can't fail to appreciate that if it's good enough for New Yorkers, it's good enough for Sheffield. So come on Sheffield, let's continue to see a more cultured approach to nightlife and take note from new hotspot DQ to kick up some more silky smooth venues.
