Sheffield Athletics

Sheffield will forever have a part to play in British Running history, being the home town of Lord Sebastian Coe. Coe was born in Chiswick, London, but moved to Sheffield at the age of eight where the hilly terrain provided fantastic training opportunities.
Coe’s running career started at the age of 12, when he joined Sheffield’s Hallamshire Harriers (one of many running clubs in Sheffield). From there, the rest is history, with Coe going on to represent his country at the highest level, setting world records and winning silver and gold Olympic medals before retiring and turning his hand to politics.
Coe’s favourite Sunday morning run was a testing 15 miler starting at Yorkshire Bridge, in Hathersage, across the Moors, through Ringinglow and Hunters Bar to his home in Broomhill. Sheffield now boasts many scenic runs, as well as running tracks.

Running Equipment

As far as sports go, running is (or at least can be) one of the cheapest. A pair of shorts, t-shirt and trainers, and away you go.
