Perhaps the most famous of Sheffield born contempory actors, Sean Bean was born in 1959 and has acted in major Hollywood productions as well as smaller UK television series. Undoubtedly most well known for his role as the swashbucking Major Sharpe in the classic ITV period drama 'Sharpe', Sean Bean has also been seen in Ronin, Troy, Lord of the Rings, Patriot Games, Goldeneye and many more.

Sean Mark Bean was born to Rita and Brian Bean in the Handsworth area of Sheffield and had a sister called Lorraine. A supportor of Sheffield United from an early age, he is famous for his '100% blade' tattoo on his left shoulder.

He left school in 1975 and started to work for his father's plating firm while studying at the Rotherham College of Arts and Technology for welding. Chancing upon an arts course, he persued an interest in drama and eventually own a scholarship to the famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He graduated from the Academy in 1983 and immediately took roles in Romeo and Juliet and other stage works.
