Chris Waddle ex-England International joined forces with Cavendish Cancer Care this year for their annual golf day held at Sickleholme. The teams of three had been a sell out since last February. Each team was placed with a past or present celebrity mainly from the world of sport and television. The list compiled of Duncan Wood from ITV News, Darren Fletcher from BBC Radio 5 Live, Howard Wilkinson, John Sheridan, Chris Turner plus many more. There was a shot gun start at 11am then beer and nibbles, which were kindly donated by Barrels and Bottles were taken round the course, via the golf buggy kindly loaned to us by the Gilder Group. The Gilder Group also sponsored the 18th hole and every subsequent par three, offering excellent prizes including a golfing holiday to Portugal for a hole in one. Mark Tamblyn of the Gilder Group said “Cavendish Cancer Care is a charity which we have supported for many years. As the day was going to be so unique the Gilder Group gave their full backing so that we could help raise those vital funds that the centre so knowingly deserves”. The 13th was sponsored by Impact Limited offering refreshments to all players; they also kindly donated all the flags for the course. The game finished around 4pm where players were offered refreshments, then a three course meal and excellent stand up entertainment by John Stiles, son of Nobby who ended the day on a perfect note. Sally Eustace, Corporate Partnerships Manager from Cavendish Cancer Care said “With the help of Chris and all the local businesses who were so generous meant the day went without a hiccup. A huge thank you to all the teams for their continued support and to all the celebrities who gave up their time so freely – luckily on the back of this year’s success next year is almost a sell out! “ The day brought in over £8,000, which will go direct to patient care. Cavendish Cancer Care - a local, independent cancer charity relies on the support and funds that this kind of event can generate - was delighted with the outcome. “It’s important to have fun when you’re fundraising” says Jonny Cole from the charity’s fundraising office. “We wanted people to come along and have a good time – the added bonus is that the day’s events have not only been successful in terms of the monies raised but that people showing their support have had a good time”.
